Hidden in Vietnam’s dense Annamite forests lives one of Earth’s rarest creatures—the saola, nicknamed the “Asian unicorn.” So elusive that no scientist has ever seen one in the wild!

Discovered in 1992, this unique animal resembles an antelope with distinctive parallel horns and is found only in Vietnam and Laos. With possibly fewer than 100 individuals remaining, conservationists are racing against time to protect this critically endangered species.

The good news? Vietnam has established new protected areas like the Dong Chau-Khe Nuoc Trong Nature Reserve, offering sanctuary to the saola and other threatened wildlife. Organizations like WWF-Vietnam are also leading conservation breeding programs to prevent this magical creature from disappearing forever.

Would you join a forest patrol to remove wildlife snares? What do you think makes the saola so difficult to find in the wild?
